Swine flu made headlines across the globe when cases were reported in the spring of 2009. However, now things have changed as the swine flu vaccine is easily available. The treatment is also possible with antiviral drugs like Tamiflu and Relenza. Let’s take a look at the a few things you should avoid to stay away from swine flu.
• Stay at home if you have flu like symptoms:
Unless you need medical care, avoid going out. Do not go to work, schools or grocery shopping if you are suffering from fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headache, chills, and fatigue; diarrhea and vomiting.
• No need to panic:
Though there is no need to hit the panic button, it is advisable to take the necessary precautions. You should seek immediate medical advice in case of flu like symptoms. If you belong to the high risk group it is recommended that you get vaccinated.
• Teach your kids about swine flu prevention:
Talk to your children about maintaining hygiene and washing their hands properly. Also remind them to stay away from sick people in a gentle manner.
• Seasonal flu vaccination is ineffective:
Do not rely on the seasonal flu vaccine to protect you against swine flu. A different vaccine is used for prevention against the viral infection.
