Antibiotics are medications used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections, such as sinuses, gonorrhea, meningitis, endocarditis, infection in stomach and intestines, bladder, and kidney, and other serious infections. Although antibiotics are very effective against infection-causing bacteria, it cannot be used to cure diseases caused by viruses.

Antibiotics such as Ampicillin and Amoxicillin work by attacking and destroying the walls of the bacteria. Once the walls of the bacteria are destroyed, bacteria are not able to gain access to the proteins required for them to multiply and spread. Thereafter, immune system does the work of eliminating the harmful bacteria.
